About this place
Just outside the South Exit of Narimasu Station on the Tobu Tojo Line, stairs lead down into an unpretentious basement dining room. Yamashiro greets guests with a relaxed atmosphere and an extensive, budget-conscious izakaya menu spanning fresh sashimi, fragrant grilled chicken skewers, stir-fries, and fried dishes.
Seafood is a consistent highlight for regulars. In addition to stand-alone tuna and squid sashimi, the sashimi platter can be ordered in a small portion for solo diners or a large size suited for 2 to 3 guests, making it a natural match for sake. Skewers are available by the pair (2 skewers), featuring tender young chicken thigh (hinodori) with a lightly charred crust alongside soft, savory chicken meatballs (tsukune).
Drinks cover a broad range, including Hoppy sets with both white and black mixers, highballs and chuhai sours, carafes of Iwate's Asabiraki, and regional bottles such as Urakasumi from Miyagi, Yuki no Bosha from Akita, and Hatsumago from Yamagata. House-infused coffee shochu and brandy plum liqueur add distinctive choices, allowing patrons to tailor their pours with water, hot water, or soda.
Dashi-rich steamed clams in sake, pork offal stir-fried with onions, and chikuwa fried with aonori seaweed complement the drinks, followed by finishing options like customizable onigiri, salmon rice soup (zosui), and green onion fried noodles. Anchored by an L-shaped counter and a cluster of tables, Yamashiro offers an approachable, reliable neighborhood stop for quiet solo dining or drinks after hours.
